Dirt Craft carries a selection of books that we recommend to all our students. Though we are not in the business of selling books, some of these titles are not always easy to find. And because we purchase directly from the author, we are able to sell them at a fair price, while ensuring that the author receives as much from the sale as possible.

Current Titles for Sale (all prices include GST):

Build Your Own Earth Oven (3^rd ed. - 2007) by Kiko Denzer and Hannah Field (Sale: $19.80, Reg: $22). The ultimate how-to guide on building an earth oven.

The Hand Sculpted House – a practical and philosophical guide to building a cob cottage (2002) by Ianto Evans, Michael G. Smith and Linda Smiley (Sale: $32.50, Reg: $35). A must have!

Rocket Mass Heaters – superefficient woodstoves you can build (and snuggle up to) (2007) by Ianto Evans and Leslie Jackson (Sale: $16.20, Reg: $18). Step-by-step instructions on making an efficient, cost-effective wood burning stove.

Clay Culture: Plasters, Paints and Preservation (2010) by Carole Crews (Sale: $24.30, Reg: $27). An incredible book on making homemade plasters and paints, including many great recipes.

Home Work: Handbuilt Shelter (2004) by Lloyd Kahn (Sale: $24.30, Reg: $27). Home Work contains over 1,000 photos and 300 line drawings, stories of real people building and living in their own homes, plus photos, stories, and feedback gathered over the thirty years sinceShelter was first published.

Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008) by Lloyd Kahn (Sale: $24.30, Reg: $27). Lloyd Kahn's Builders of the Pacific Coast is an absolutely amazing book! Over 1,200 photos.

Shelter (1973) by Lloyd Kahn (Sale: $22.50, Reg: $25). With over 1000 photographs, Shelter is the classic book celebrating the imagination, resourcefulness, and exuberance of human habitat. First published in 1973, the book gave birth to the "Green Building" revolution of today.

The Barefoot Architect (2008) by Johan van Lengen (Sale: $16.65, Reg: $18.50). This book is for people who dream of building a simple home. It is also for those in the building trades: carpenters, masons, plumbers, and artisans, as well as for urban planners, rural technicians, and small community designers.All prices are in Canadian dollars. GST is included, though shipping (if required) is additional.

Tiny Homes: Simple Shelter (2012) by Lloyd Kahn (Sale: $24.30, Reg: $27). The lastest from Shelter Punlications. For fans of Homework and Builders of the Pacific Coast, this book will be familiar, but a whole new topic: tiny homes! With lots of picutres and great stories of small shelter from earthen homes to treehouses.

Small orders (1 or 2 books) are sent using an Xpresspost envelope, which costs $13 and takes 2-3 business days within Western Canada. For shipments to other parts of Canada please email us for a quote. Books may also be picked up in Calgary.
